FreeCell Solitaire — Play Online for Free
FreeCell is a skill-based solitaire card game where nearly every deal is winnable with perfect play. Unlike Klondike, all 52 cards are dealt face-up from the start, and four free cells give you temporary storage to maneuver cards strategically.
How to Play FreeCell Solitaire
The goal is to move all 52 cards to the four foundation piles, built up by suit from Ace to King.
Game Setup
- Tableau: Eight columns of cards are dealt face-up. The first four columns contain 7 cards; the last four contain 6 cards.
- Free Cells: Four empty cells in the upper-left for temporary card storage.
- Foundation Piles: Four empty piles in the upper-right where you build each suit from Ace to King.
Rules and Moves
- Building on Tableau: Stack cards in descending order with alternating colors. Place a red 6 on a black 7.
- Free Cells: Park a single card in any empty free cell to unblock moves.
- Moving to Foundation: Move Aces first, then build up by suit (A, 2, 3… K).
- Moving Sequences: You can move multiple cards at once — the number of cards you can move equals (free cells + 1) × 2^(empty columns).
- Empty Columns: Accept any card or sequence.
FreeCell Strategy Tips
- Plan ahead: FreeCell rewards careful planning. Think several moves ahead before committing.
- Keep free cells open: Free cells are precious. Avoid filling all four — it severely limits your moves.
- Build sequences: Moving cards in valid alternating-color sequences lets you shift large groups efficiently.
- Empty columns are powerful: An empty column acts like four additional free cells.
- Foundation pace: Build all four suits at a similar pace to maximize flexibility.
